Manipal: Manipal University will be launching North East Studies Centre with a mandate to conduct research studies on pertinent important themes impacting North-east society, economy, polity, culture, dialects and inherent internal contradictions.
The Centre will provide a platform for scholars to exchange views on the challenges being confronted by the North east in a free and frank manner. The Centre will organise special lectures and conduct workshops on North east affairs at frequent intervals. It will make a modest attempt to build the critical mass of young researchers on the north east region. The Centre will promote students of the north east and provide an opportunity to visit Manipal University and do internship on the areas of their interests and learn from each others culture. The significance of north east is also seen in its rich cultural values, traditions and cultural heritage.
The Centre will conduct short term courses on a number of issues reflecting the cultural aspect, which in turn will help in bringing the strengths of the region to the mainstream of India. How India’s Act east policy will be promoted by improving an understanding on the north-east region with a focus on the need to improve the communication systems will also feature as a major focus of the Centre. The Centre will commission research papers and draw resource persons and expertise from elsewhere in the north east to strengthen the understanding.
The Centre will work under the auspices of the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations. Dr. Monish Tourangbam a native of Manipur and currently a Faculty at the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations has been appointed as the Coordinator of the Centre.
