SAC inaugurates decennial year of ‘Analyst’ national level fest

Mangaluru: “Jubilees or anniversaries are celebrations which remind us of the struggles that were overcome and achievements that were accomplished either at 50 years as golden jubilee or 25 years as silver jubilee.”

The St. Aloysius department of post graduate chemistry inaugurated its decennial year of the inception of ‘Analyst’, an intercollegiate national level fest on February 22 at the LF Rasquinha hall. The chief guest Dr. Suhas Pednekar, Mumbai graced the occasion. He was escorted onto the dais by the president of the function Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Dr. Richard Gonsalves vice principal of LCRI block, Dr. Ronald Nazareth HOD of the post graduate department of chemistry, Dr. Vinola Rodrigues, president of the Alchemy Association and the secretaries Gopee and Prateksha. The master of ceremonies for the day was Ranjitha Acharaya.

The prayer was led by Priyanka Gladys Pinto and her team, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Ronald Nazareth who officially welcomed the dignitaries present on and off the dais as well as the participants from various colleges. This was followed Dr. Vinola Rodrigues walking everyone present through the history of ‘Analyst’, from its inception to the present. She stated the importance of the fest and how it is a platform like no other, wherein learning along with interaction takes place among students of various colleges. The chief guest was introduced by Dr. Richard Gonsalves.

After the lighting of the lamp, a symbolic representation of driving away the darkness, the chief guest Dr. Suhas Pednekar addressed the gathering. He highlighted that chemistry is present in every aspect of a person’s life thereby suggesting that chemists have a bright future. He suggested that E=F i.e., ‘education is equal to future’ is the most powerful equation in the world. He also likened education to a mirror stating that once you achieve wisdom you must share it with the world to better enhance it. To achieve success in life one must have aspiration, requisite abilities, adaptability, attitude, patience, effective listening and simplicity.

Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ then delivered his presidential address encouraging and appreciating the bond between the staff and the students. He quoted the example of Pauling, the greatest chemist of the 21st century who achieved not only a Nobel Prize for chemistry but also the Nobel peace prize, a laureate who every young chemist must admire. Furthermore, as youth who would be the future of this country we must work towards the improvement of this earth.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Gopee, the secretary of the alchemy association. The ceremony was concluded with the college anthem.
