Mangaluru: The Department of Commerce, St Aloysius College organized a talk on “Drug abuse and its preventive measures” on June 26 at Eric Mathias Hall. The dignitaries for the day were Dr Mahabalesh Shetty, HOD, Dept of Forensic Science, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Derlakatte and forensic expert for Mangalore police; Udaya Nayak, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Division; Pradeep, Sub-Inspector, North Police Station, Dr Bhaskar and Ganesh, social activist.
The session began with a brief introduction about drug trafficking in Mangalore by Udaya Nayak. He explained to the students about the drug trafficking taking place in their surroundings. He requested the students to prevent the usage of narcotics and he informed the students about various help-lines available.
The chief guest for the day Dr Mahabalesh Shetty gave detailed information about various types of drugs and its effect on human health. He also explained the various reasons as to why a person gets involved in drugs use and later becomes an addict. Towards the end of the session, the students were also advised about the ill effects of drug abuse.
