Mangaluru: The annual athletic meet of Sacred Heart College, Madanthyar, was held on Tuesday, March 16th at the 4×100 meter college ground.
Annamma Varkey, former national athlete and alumna of the college inaugurated the event and Rajshekar Shetty, working president, Belthangaday Taluk amateur kabaddi association, and also an alumnus of the college was the chief guest.
The sports day commenced with offering the flowers to the patron of the college, Sacred Heart of Jesus followed by an inspiring marchpast by the students to the beat of a lovely band. All classes actively participated. The members of the student council with the NCC Guards led the march past and after that by flag was hoisted by the chief guest.
Rajshekar Shetty, in his address, spoke to the students about the importance of sports and how it helps to develop courage and strength to face challenges by driving his own experiences.
Annamma Varkey, who inaugurated the programme shared her experience in sports and encouraged all students to participate in extracurricular activities
Rev. Fr. Basil Vas, in his presidential remarks, congratulated the entire college for organizing a wonderful sports meet.
Former sportsperson of the college Hakim and Parish Council Vice President Leo Rodrigues were also present on the dais.
The college football team and cricket team were felicitated for winning prizes.
Principal Dr Joseph N M welcomed the gathering, Physical Education director Prakash D Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Nelson Monis anchored the Programme. The Stage programme was followed by various sports events.
