Mangaluru: The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected members of the Students’ Council 2018-19 was held on Wednesday, July 11, in the Eric Mathias Hall.
The programme began with a prayer song by the student choir. Dr Donald Lobo, Director, Students’ Council, welcomed the gathering. Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Administrator, St Aloysius Evening College, who presided over the function, was joined by Dr Manohar Serrao, Principal, SAEC, Dr Ravi Shetty, Vice-principal, Dr Donald Lobo, Mr Sudesh, President-Elect, Mr Mahesh, Vice-president Elect and Sr. Renita, Secretary-Elect, in the symbolic lighting of the lamp to mark the beginning of the council activities in the new academic year 2018-19.
Rev. Dr Praveen Martis administered the oath to the President-Elect, Sudesh, who then administered the oath to the other council members. The ceremony ended with the singing of the College Anthem. The Principal, Dr Manohar V. Serrao, emphasised the need to participate in extra, co-curricular and outreach activities to mould one into a man/woman for others. Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, in his presidential address, emphasised the importance of imbibing the right kind of leadership skills which when coupled with good character, would produce excellent leaders which is a need of the hour in the globalized contemporary world today.
The ‘One Rupee Revolution’, the unique outreach programme of the college, was inaugurated for the new academic year. Sudesh, President, Students’ Council, proposed the vote of thanks. Stacy Robert compered the programme. The function ended with the National Anthem. More than 300 students were present in the audience.
