Mangaluru: The department of Business Administration of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management organized “Sahyadri Whiz Quiz-2018” grand finale, an inter-collegiate quiz competition for undergraduate students, on March 9.
In the weeks leading up to the grand finale, around 7,000 students of 50 selected colleges from Mangaluru, Udupi, Kodagu, Karwar and Kasargod participated in the college level round. Of these students, 950 were selected for the final round which was held at the Sahyadri campus.
The day witnessed an enormous crowd of participating students who were enthusiastic to combat in the final round. Kamakhaya Prashad Aggarwal, Business Head – Karnataka and Goa, HDFC Ltd was the Chief Guest and Pradeep Suresh, Director – Financial Accounting Advisory Services, E&Y Associates LLP was the Guest of Honour of the Inaugural Ceremony.
Prof. Gayathri Shetty, Chief Coordinator of Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018 welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA introduced Sahyadri and the Dept. of Business Administration, to the gathering. She also gave them a bird’s eye view of the flagship event “Sahyadri Whiz Quiz 2018”.
Aggarwal, in his speech appreciated the efforts of Sahyadri in organizing such a mammoth event. He congratulated the participants for winning the previous college level round. He urged the students to ponder about the meaning of ‘success’ and mentioned that success is not an end but the journey. To face success, one should set an action-oriented goal emphasizing on short term goals. He said winning the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz should not be the goal, but the preparation for the Whiz Quiz should be the goal which transforms the anxiety into confidence to face the grand finale.
Pradeep Suresh, while addressing the gathering seconded the opinions of the Chief Guest and added to that achieving success is easy provided one enjoys the journey. He urged the students to invest in the ‘self’ as it is the best investment one could make. He said – “Fail, as long as you are learning from your failure”. He appreciated the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz as it pushes students to be inquisitive about current affairs.
Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management in his Presidential address conveyed that the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz is one of the forums to convert information to wisdom and also urged the students to interact with others during the course of the event and enjoy the day long event.
Prof. Ramesh K G, coordinator of the Sahyadri Whiz Quiz proposed the vote of thanks. Jeson Pinto and Runa Pinto, first students of MBA, compered the event. Rakshith Shetty was the Quiz Master. Soon after the formal function, the first preliminary round was held.
Out of 315 teams of 3 each, 150 teams qualified for the second preliminary round. Finally, 6 teams were selected for the Grand Finale. Swami Maheshathmanandaji, Correspondent, Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Institution, Mysuru and Jayaraj Rai, Chairman, Shri Ramakrishna Credit Co-operative Society facilitated the winners.
The department of Commerce, Manipal came in first winning a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 25,000, SDM Ujire came 2nd and won a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 15,000, and St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru came 3rd and won a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
