Mangaluru: St. Aloysius Pre-University College recently bid farewell to principal Rev. Fr Melwin Mendonca SJ. He served as principal of the college for five years.
Taking charge as the PU college’s principal in the year 2014, he took the student strength from 2,826 spread across 38 batches, to 4,055 students across 62 batches by the end of his tenure. Fr Melwin has, through his work, established SAPUC as one of the most sought after institutions in the Dakshina Kannada district.
Known as “the students’ principal”, Fr Melwin believes in the overall development of a student and has worked earnestly towards achieving that goal. With a greater emphasis on academic excellence and extra-curricular/co-curricular activities, he has ensured that every student has ample opportunity for holistic development.
The all-time high percentage of 98.51% in the academic year 2017-18 is a glowing proof of his guidance and support.
His deep-rooted concern for the underprivileged and the weaker sections of society, and his desire to make the students aware of the plight of such individuals, was the driving force behind the initiatives such as the outreach programmes and CAUSE.
The staff and student community of SAPUC are thankful for Fr Melwin’s service and wish him success in his future endeavours.
