Seminar on ‘Blood Irradiation: Technology and Applications’ held

Mangaluru: A one day seminar was organised by Yenepoya University Research Centre on “Blood Irradiation: Technology and Applications” was held on 26th May 2015, in Indoor Auditorium, of Yenepoya Medical College.
The seminar covered the following topics such as: “Blood irradiation processing facility, safety and regulatory aspects”, by Mr. P. B. Varma, Ex. Sr. General Manager, BRIT, Mumbai and this session was moderated by Dr. Sheriff. M.H. (Assoc. Prof. in Pathology, YMCH).

“Technical aspects of irradiation of blood” by Dr. N. Sivaprasad, Former Sr. General Manager, BRIT, Mumbai and this session was moderated by Dr. Guruprasad (Assist. Prof. in Medical Oncology, YMCH).

“Appropriate use of blood components and role of irradiated cellular blood products to prevent GVHD” by Dr. Snehalata Gupte, Former Director, Raktadhan Kendra, Surat and this session was moderated by Dr. Jayaram Shetty (Prof. in Radiation Oncology, KSHEMA, Nitte University).

“Effects of irradiation on blood group antigens on RBC. Application of labeled compounds in pharmacy” by Dr. Snehalata Gupte, Former Director, Raktadhan Kendra, Surat and this session was moderated by Dr. Chandrika (Assoc. Prof. in Pathology, KSHEMA, Nitte University).

“Applications of labeled compounds or other applications of Gamma irradiation” by Dr. N. Sivaprasad, Former Sr. General Manager, BRIT, Mumbai, and this session was moderated by Dr. Kamalaksha Shenoy (Prof. & HOD, Radiation Oncology, A.J.I.M.S)

The welcome address was  by Dr. Sudheer Shenoy, and the vote of thanks by Dr. Yashodhar Bhandary, Yenepoya Research Centre.
