Mangaluru: One of the prestigeous college from the city, St Joseph College of engineering celebrated ‘College Day’ in a resplendent manner here on February 24. N Vinaya Hegde, chancellor, Nitte University and president of Nitte Education Trust was the chief guest on the occasion.
Guest of Honour, Jeevan Saldanha, president, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, CEO of Spectrum Industries, said, “In today’s ever changing competitive world, knowledge is power. With the advent of technology, a lot of disruptive businesses have come into place ensuring closure of many entrepreneurial ventures. There will be challenges, but you need to think out of the box. To succeed in business you need 90 percent hard work. It requires a ‘never say die’ attitude “, he added that students at SJEC have excelled in all the fields with a great support from the mamangement and staff. He also shared his own experinece in business and how optical sorting system started by him became successful.
Chief guest on the occasion, N Vinaya Hegde, chancellor, Nitte University, addressing the student gathering stressed that they should value their parents and the institutions where they have pursued their education. Citing his example he asked the students to have patience in their respective career and to enjoy their work. He went on to say how he started off at a meagre pay and moved on to become a successful entrepreneur and acamedician.
Presiding over the function, Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru, extended his wishes to the students for the college day.
Meritorious students excelling in sports and academics as well as faculty members were felicitated on the occasion whereafter a cultural extravaganza showcased by the student community of the College.
Fr Joseph J Lobo, director, SJEC welcomed and introduced the guests. The annual report was presented by Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal, SJEC. The grand event was compered by Sadhika Shetty and Sathyendra Bhat. Rachana Crasta rendered vote of thanks.
