Mangaluru: St. Joseph’s Engineering College inaugurated the first year batches of the BE course for the academic year 2018-19 on Monday, August 6 at their college auditorium.

As the Chief Guest of the event, Fr Dionysius Vas, Rector, St. Aloysius College and educational institutions officially inaugurated the academic year symbolically by lighting the traditional lamp. Joining him were Fr. Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, St. Joseph Engineering College, Fr. Rohith D’Costa, Assistant Director, SJEC, Dr. Rio D’Souza, Principal, Dr. Ramananda H S, first-year student coordinator.

Addressing the gathering of blue eyed students, Fr. Dionysius spoke about how to learn, become a person of character and to live is the essence of education. He added that today’s students and the young generation face three main challenges-not to lose their identity, be responsible and sacrifice. “This college concentrates on this kind of education. That is why they get talented students each year. This institution gives their students the freedom to explore, flourish, and extend,” he said.

Fr. Wilfred welcomed the new students to the institution and assured them that the college, with an experienced and professional module, would help them meet their educational needs.

Dr. Rio also welcomed the new batch of students and thanked them for choosing to study at SJEC. He also assured them that they would get a wonderful study atmosphere at the campus. “SJEC focuses on studies and the academic curriculum while also giving value-based education which will help each student in their personal growth,” he said.

During the inaugural programme, Fr. Dionysius felicitated those students, who recently joined SJEC, for their achievements at the PUC level.

Dr. Ramananda H S welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. Prameela D’Souza, Convenor of the programme delivered a vote of thanks. Shamna Shabna and Smitha D’Souza compered the programme.
