St Agnes College holds Lecture Series on Careers in Defence

Mangaluru: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the Department of Psychology, St Agnes College, (Autonomous) organized a Lecture Series on Career Opportunities in Defence and Careers for Psychologists in Defence Services on Dec 6, 2022.  The Resource Speakers for the sessions were Gp Capt. K K Bhaduri, Psych Technique Head, Mysore and Nischitha Barke, Scientist DRDO.  The Inaugural began by invoking God’s blessings after which Lt Gayathri welcomed the gathering. Gp Capt KK Bhaduri Psych Technique Head delivered the inaugural address. Sr Dr M Venissa A C., the Principal addressed the gathering on this occasion. The first session was conducted by Gp Capt KK Bhaduri Psych Technique Head. During the session, Gp Capt Bhaduri addressed the participants on ‘why defence’ and stressed how prestigious, exciting and challenging is a career in defence. He briefed the participants on the criteria for entrance, types of entries, UPSC, AFCAT, MET, NCC special entry and SEC and also the entrance process and qualifications for the Indian Army and Indian Navy. The session concluded with a brief introduction to the Agnipath Scheme – which allows the recruitment of soldiers into non-commissioned ranks for a period of 4 years.

The second session was conducted by Nischitha Barke – Scientist, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Nischita’s session focussed on the ample opportunities for careers available for a Psychology Major graduate. The participants were apprised of the innumerable career opportunities available under two categories viz. DRDO and Defence. The internship and entrance qualifications required for the various posts at the Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR) were also discussed.  The session concluded with a detailing of the temporary and contract jobs available in Defence for Psychology graduates and those with other higher qualifications in Psychology in the field of Counselling and Clinical Psychology. The beneficiaries of this Seminar were students and NCC Cadets from St. Aloysius PU College, Sacred Heart College Madantyaar, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, KMC College, Dr P Dayananda Pai P Sathish Pai Government First Grade College Car Street and St Agnes PU and Degree College Mangalore. SUO Saniya expressed her words of gratitude. The Programme was compered by Flg Offr Dr Hithakshi.
