St.Aloysius ITI celebrates Ayudha Pooja; installs Student Council

Mangaluru: The St. Aloysius ITI combined its Ayudha Pooja celebrations with the installation of its newly elected student council (2019-20) at its auditorium on the campus in Karangalpady on 5th October 2019. Ayudha Pooja is a part of the Navratri festival, which means “ Worship of Instruments”. According to Hindu Mythology after the slaying of the demon king, the weapons were kept out for worship. This celebration enlightens the importance as well as the proper use of tools and equipment used in daily life. The students realizing the importance of maintaining the tools and equipment at the Institute used to prepare them for a career in the industrial world, involved themselves in cleaning and decorating their respective workshops. All the workshops as well as the offices were beautified with plantain leaves, glazing paper, flowers, mango leaves, and colorful balloons.

Festivities began with prayers and the blessing of all the workshops (MRAC,COE,MMV WL,PL,MD,C&S,HYUNDAI,EM,EL,COMPUTER LAB) by Rev.Fr Vincent Pinto SJ, Finance Officer, St. Aloysius college Autonomous. The formal programme commenced with a prayer conducted by Mr. Wilson N.

The Principal, Mr.Roshan D’Souza, extended a cordial welcome to the dignitaries. The newly elected student council was inaugrated with the planting of a sapling and its watering by the council members and dignitaries. Later, the student council members were administered the oath of office. The newly elected student council members include Mr.Denzil Floyd Veigas as President; Mrs.Akshatha S as Vice President; Mr.Nithesh as Secretary; Mr.Riyon Prithvil D’Souza as Sports Secretary; and Mr.Skanda Prasad as Cultural Secretary. The inaugural function was conducted by Mr.Alwyn Menezes, Vice Principal.

Chief guest Mr.Yogesh Kumar BC, Police Inspector (Anti Corruption Bureau), D.K Dist, Mangalore, addressing the gathering felicitiated the student council members and advised them to fully utilize their potential and come up in life with the guidance of their teachers and elders. Giving the example of St Kabir for his simplicity, he said, ” you can achieve anything in life if you try to achieve it in a good way. Set a goal in life and achieve it in the right way. Mr.Umesh, JTO, EM Trade delivered a speech on the history and importance of the Ayudha Pooja celebration.

Rev. Fr Cyril D’mello SJ, Director of the institution presided over the programme. The other dignitaries on the dais were Rev. Fr Vincent Pinto SJ, Finance Officer, St. Aloysius college Autonomous, Mr. Noel Lobo, Training Officer, and Mr. John D’souza, Convenor of the programme.

On this occasion, Mr.Sajjad Ahmed (MRAC II) was felicitated by the dignitaries for his achievements at the Taekwondo championship held in Bengaluru recently. Taekwondo is a Korean martial art. Sajjad Ahmed had represented the Dakshina Kannada South zone in the color belt section (Poonse/Kata) and won the gold medal in the under 54 Kg category. The felicitation programme was conducted by Smt. Dorin Snehaprabha, JTO, Sewing Technology.

Rev Fr. Vincent Pinto SJ in his speech said, “Importance of education in life is to be employed and have social concern. Education is nill without social concern. An important tool given by Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhiji to the society was non-violence.He inspired the students by giving an example of missile man Dr. Abdul Kalam and P.V. Sindhu, badmitton player for their hardwork and the goals they had set for themseleves and achieveing them.” In his presidential address, Rev Fr. Cyril D’mello SJ, Director of the institution said, “We are instruments in the hands of God. We have to worship as well as use the tools for a purpose and also respect mankind. He also wished all the student council members a fruitful and meaningful term of office.

The stage programme was followed by a cultural programme. Students of Sewing Technology performed a beautiful dance. Mr. John D’souza, Convenor of the programme proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Rohan Cutinha, student of Welder trade and Mr.Lidson Fernandes, student of MMV Ist trade compered the programme.

The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
