Mangaluru: A seminar on ‘Education for Transformation’ for the teaching staff of St. Aloysius Higher Primary School and St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute was organised on May 22 at the ITI auditorium ‘Samipya’.
The resource person of the seminar was Rev. Fr. John Kennedy SJ from Madhurai, Tamil Nadu. The seminar commenced with a prayer session conducted by junior training officer Wilson N. Vincent Mendonsa-Principal of St. Aloysius ITI, extended a cordial welcome to the gathering. The seminar was inaugurated by the traditional ceremony of lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering Rev. Fr. Eric Mathias SJ-Director of the St. Aloysius Institutions said, “The core of Jesuit education is all-round growth of the students. The development of the child should not be limited to academics. The physical, emotional and mental development of a child is equally important. Our education system is meant to take care of the child as a whole”.
The seminar had many sessions like legacy of the Jesuit Educational System, purpose of education, various aspects of transformation and how to be effective. The resource person said, “There has to be a paradigm shift in our attitude, so that we would be able take everything in a positive spirit. We cannot change the events happening around us, but we can definitely choose how we would like to respond to that event. Have passion for life. Classrooms are the places, where the future of our nation is created and teachers shape this future. Teachers touch the life of a child like no one else can. Be the compassionate teachers and form your students to be the agents of social change and enlightened global citizens”.
