St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, inaugurated “Go for Gold-2019”, its Annual Athletic Meet at the College Ground on Thursday, 7th March 2019 at 9:00 AM.
Ms Shreema Priyadarshini, International Athlete and Member of Indian Railways Sports Division was the Chief Guest on the occasion and inaugurated the event by hoisting the flag and releasing balloons. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director of SJEC, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa, Assistant Director of SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal of SJEC, Mr Alister D’Souza & Ms Rachana Crasta, Sports Advisors and Ms Veneesha V Rodrigues, Assistant Physical Education Director, were present.
Addressing the gathering Ms Priyadarshini said, “Success will be achieved when you work hard. However, success may also be lost the way it came to you. Hence, work hard and never give up. Taste of success is very sweet. So try to enjoy it. Do not stick to any particular field. Enjoy life in 360 degrees. I congratulate all athletes and their supporters.”
Ms Rachana Crasta welcomed the dignitaries, guests and students. A colorful march fast by students was presented. Students who participated in national level sports events were handed over the burning torch by the guest. The formal programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr Alister D’Souza.
The inaugural was followed by a series of Athletic Events throughout the day that witnessed active participation of both students as well as staff. The meet culminated with a Valedictory involving prize distribution. Dr Vincent Crasta, Professor and Head of Department of Physics, was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory.
