Mangaluru: The faculty members, alumni and students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, were invited and given a chance to display their recycling projects at the 10th edition of the International Plastics Exposition 2019 (IPLEX 2019) held in Bengaluru at the International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), from August 23 to 25.
Two projects were exhibited during the event- Development of Waste Plastic Lumber and Bricks using Commingled (Mixed) Waste Plastics and Single-Use Waste Plastics, and Development of Low-cost building materials using composite made from Demolished Building Material (DBM) Waste and Waste Plastic.
The exhibits drew a very good response from the audience that included participants from the Government, industry, investors, general public and foreign delegates from Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, Canada, Germany etc. who appreciated and commended the efforts of the College in developing the systems in upcycling of waste plastics.
Noel D Shiri, Assistant Professor-Mechanical Engineering, along with alumni of Mechanical Engineering, Darryl D’Souza and Keegan Dion Santhmayor and current students namely Mohammed Sinan and Grenvil Noronha participated in the exhibition. From the Department of Civil Engineering, Prashant Kurdekar, Assistant Professor and alumna Vishikha Keshav were also present.
Important delegates who visited the SJEC stall included D V Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizer, convenors and organizers of IPLEX 2019, KSPA President Vijaya Kumar, KASSIA President R Raju and others.
