Mangaluru: The International Women’s Day was observed by the Department of Medical Social Work on 8th March 2022 in the auditorium of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Medical College Hospital.
Dr Irene Veigas, Assistant professor of the Dept. of MSW welcomed the guests and introduced the chief guest. Dr Uma Kulkarni, Professor of Ophthalmology and Secretary of Yenepoya(Deemed to be University) Ethics Committee was the chief guest who spoke on the situation and achievements of women in various fields in society. She emphasized that education, employment and self-development are the main ingredients of women’s empowerment. All of us unitedly can break the bias towards gender and it is high time to realize the goal of inclusive social development as envisaged by the Government.
The guests and the women participants jointly inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. The programme was presided by Revathy Samarasam, Nursing Superintendent of the hospital. Dr Mohammed Guthigar, HOD and Dr Gladys Colaco Assistant professor in the MSW Department were present on the dais. The MSW students conducted competitions for women and the winners were awarded prizes. Students sang songs and performed roleplays to create awareness among women. Deeksha and Joyal Kuriakose among the MSW students compeered the programme and Ashna Antony proposed a vote of thanks.
