Mangalore: English Association of University College Mangalore celebrated Martyrs’ Day in a meaningful way by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji through music and paintings on the occasion of his death anniversary, at Ravindra Kalabhavan on Wednesday.
University College Mangalore Principal Dr. Uday Kumar M A inaugurated the event titled ‘Remembering the Mahatma and martyrdom’.
Vidhwan Gurudas Shenoy and troupe paid a tribute to the Mahatma with melodious music. The accomplished musician was associated by Taranath Joshi in Sitar, Raghunath Prabhu in Tabla, Lamburi by Manish Das, Gurudas Shenoy in Harmonium and Shanta Adiyar was the co-singer.
The programme was broadcasted by ‘Akashwani’ and ‘Doordarshan’.
It is always believed that the Mahatma lives even after his death through the artistic creations. Famous artists painted Mahatma Gandhi in their own style. The event displayed 104 such cards with the name of the artists, and 4 were with quotations.
There were 208 paintings of the Mahatma painted by legendary painters.
Mangalore University Political Science department retired Chairman Dr. Rajaram Tholpadi and others were present during the event.
