Mangaluru: On account of World No Tobacco Day 2022, National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit V, Department of Community Health Nursing and Centre for Prevention of Substance Abuse-Satellite Unit of YNC organized a program in collaboration with Dakshina Kannada Tobacco Control Cell on 02.06.2022 at KSRTC Bus Stand, Bejai, Mangaluru. The program started with a rally from Mangalore Corporation Circle to the KSRTC bus stand. Students of IV year B.Sc Nursing students and volunteers of the NSS unit, YNC participated in the rally.

The inaugural function started at 11.45 am. Renita Priya D’Souza, Associate Professor, Department of Paediatric Nursing welcomed dignitaries and the gathering. The program was graced by Chief guest Jyothi, District Health Education Officer, Dakshina Kannada, Guest of honour Priya Pavan Kumar, Labour Welfare Officer, KSRTC, Mangaluru Division, Kamal Kumar, Senior Depot Manager, Mangaluru Division, Sruthi Salian, District Coordinator, District Tobacco Control Unit, Dakshina Kannada and Janet Miranda, Vice Principal, Yenepoya Nursing College. Jyothi, the Chief guest revealed the theme of the year “Tobacco is killing us and our planet”. Sruthi Salian, the Guest of honour highlighted on preventive measures and the ill effects of tobacco use.

The presidential address was given by Janet Miranda, Vice Principal, Yenepoya Nursing College.  Nithyasree, Assistant Professor-II, Department of Community Health Nursing Navya, Assistant Professor-I, Department of Community Health Nursing, and Viji Prasad C, Assistant Professor, Department of Mental Health Nursing and Coordinator of  YNC -Satellite unit of Centre for Prevention of Substance Abuse were present.

Students performed a flash mob on the ill effects of tobacco use and displayed of placards. The program was concluded with a vote of thanks by Ananda S, Assistant Professor stage-II, Department of Community Health Nursing and member of the Centre for Prevention of Substance Abuse- YNC Satellite Unit.
