Yenepoya Med College Holds CME on Antimicrobial Stewardship

Mangaluru:  The Department of Pharmacology and Microbiology, Yenepoya Medical College, jointly organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) tilted “AWaRe Minds”- Navigating Antimicrobial Stewardship. The programme was inaugurated by Honorable Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Dr M.Vijay Kumar (chief guest), guest of honors- Dr Gangadhara Somayaji, Registrar, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Dr M S Moosabba, Principal, Yenepoya Medical College, Dr Prakash Robert Saldanha, Vice Principal, Yenepoya Medical College, Dr Abhay Nirgude, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Dr Habib Rehaman, Incharge Medical Superintendent Yenepoya Medical College Hospital.

Speakers from various institutions and specialties including Dr Vandana K E, Professor and Head, Microbiology, KMC, Manipal, Dr Padmaja Udaykumar, Professor and Head, Pharmacology, Fr. Muller Medical College, Mangaluru and Dr V K Vineeth, Assistant Professor and Consultant Infectious Disease, Yenepoya Medical College gave their insights on Antimicrobial stewardship.

The speakers emphasized on implementation of antimicrobial stewardship which is the systematic effort to educate and persuade prescribers of antimicrobials to follow evidence based prescribing in order to reduce antimicrobial overuse and combat antimicrobial resistance.

Panel discussion on Antimicrobial stewardship was conducted which included the panelists- Dr Suchitra Shenoy, Professor and Head, Microbiology, KMC, Mangalore, Dr Padmaja Udaykumar, Dr Mithun H K, Associate Professor, Paediatrics, YMC and Dr V K Vineeth. These sessions were followed by a brief session by Shantanu Takle, Application Manager for South India, bioMerieux. The organizing chairpersons were Dr Roopa P Nayak, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, Yenepoya Medical College and Dr Rouchelle Tellis, Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology, Yenepoya Medical College.
