Bangalore Archdiocese specially recognizes 10 women on International Women’s Day 2019

In line with the theme Balance for a Better World, the Archdiocese of Bangalore Commission for Women, Ecumenism and Inter Religious Dialogue honored 10 women for their contribution towards reaching out and supporting the community. The event conducted by Universal Harmony took place on Saturday, 9th March 2019 at the Palana Bhavan, Bangalore.

Commented Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore, “Geared as they are with spending their lives in the service of their families, both within and out, the world starts up to acknowledge their services to the family and society. The future is exciting. It’s time to empower our women and ensure we build a gender balanced world together”.

The awardees included Sr. Mary Mascarenhas, SJT, Sr. Teresa Mandakath, Sameera Fernandes, Marion de Nazareth, Cynthia Stephen, Jyothimayee, Shobha B.S, Ekata Deb, Sugra Ameen and Margaret Rebello who were honored for their selfless work towards the community and for creating positive social change.

Also commented Archbishop Emeritus of Bangalore, Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras, “Women have an important role to play in society and that cannot change. We need to honor each other and ensure a collective action and a shared responsibility for driving a gender- balanced world. Today, we are celebrating the achievements of women – while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender balance”.

Special guests including Pooja Raj (daughter of Prakash Raj), Rev. Fr. Faustin Lucas Lobo, Rev. Fr. George Vincent Lobo, Lillian Xavier, Sr. Manjula, Jolly Bastian, Jennifer Anthony, Nirmala Peters and many other were present on the occasion.

Dr. Roma Francis, Organising Secretary – Universal Harmony, “The Women of Influence awards celebrate local women who have made a positive social difference in the community? and celebrate women who have demonstrated innovative and inspiring approaches to leadership, volunteerism or community involvement?”.

The event ended with performances from Jolly Bastian, Jennifer Anthony, a dance presentation from two schools followed by lunch.
