Mangaluru: The 200-year-old historically famous Sri Venkataramana Temple at the Carstreet is a set to get Rs 1.7 crore worth chariot.
The construction of Brahmaratha began at the Sri Vishwakarma Handicrafts School of Art in Koteshwara on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya with new wood muhurtham held to mark the occasion.
The chariot is set to be completed and be ready during the car festival next year. The chariot work was commenced on the orders of Srimad Sayameendra Theertha Swamiji, the pontiff of Sri Kashi Matha and will be dedicated to the temple in the presence of pontiff too.
On this occasion, the temple committe members, Devdas, C. L. Shenoy, K. P. Prashant Rao, Ramachandra Kamath, temple priests Kashinath Acharya, Auditor M. Jagannath Kamath, D Vasudev Kamath, and Jeevan Raj Shenoy were present. The chariot will be constructed under the leadership of sculptures Laxmi Narayan Acharya and his son Rajagopal Acharya.
