Mangaluru: MLA Kamath laid foundation stone for the construction of retaining wall on selected stretches of the canal behind Ekkur Country Club in the 49th Kankanady Ward of Mangaluru City Corporation limits in Kallakatta Sadashivanagar here on Tuesday February 28.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Minor Irrigation Department of the State Government has provided a grant of Rs.100 Crore for the construction of retaining walls and drains of canals at various places in the City. With this amount, the concerned have come forward to get these works done, he said. The MLA appreciated that the Corporators under his Constituency are working diligently to overcome the problems faced by the people during the rainy season.
The Minor Irrigation Department’s grant is available only in areas where fields, and agricultural activities are carried out. However, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Party State President Nalin Kumar Kateel had cooperated in providing this grant from the Minor Irrigation Department so as to solve the problem of monsoon floods of the people of Mangaluru City, Kamath recalled.
