Udupi: Sarvadharma Deepavali was observed at Mother of Sorrows Church premises on Wednesday, November 2, organized by Sauharda Samiti, Catholic Sabha Udupi church unit.
In her address, Dr. Madhavi Bhandary former Principal of Poorna Prajna Evening College said that true light takes us from untruth to truth, darkness to light and from death to eternal life. When there is peace and harmony among the people, there will be positive developments in the society. Deepavali, the festival of lights is celebrated by all the religions. These festivals keep us away from negativity. There is darkness due to lack of knowledge, she said.
Very Rev Fr. Fredrick Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Udupi church presided over the programme. Dr. Shusil Jathanna, Director, Lombard Memorial Mission Hospital and Global Multi Specialty Hospital, Mangaluru, Janab Kalil Ahmed, Management Officer of M.E.T. English Medium High School Korangrapady, Udupi spoke on the occasion.
Various cultural programmes were held during the celebrations by the students of St Mary’s Kannada Higher Primary School, St. Mary’s English Medium School, C.S.I. Boys Boarding Home students and Choir group of Udupi Church. Earlier Alphonse D’Costa, Convener of Sauharda Committee welcomed the gathering. Very Rev Fr. Fredrick Mascarenhas and the guests inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Nithyananda Volakkadu was felicitated during the programme.
Around five hundred diyas were lighted to mark the Deepavali celebrations. Amrutha, teacher of St. Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady compered the programme. Janab Mohammed Maula member of Sauharda Committee proposed the vote of thanks.
