Tree planting held at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail

Mangaluru: A tree planting programme was held under the joint auspices of the Catholic Sabha Derebail Unit, Church Environment Commission, Youth Commission and Religious Harmony Commission at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Derebail premises in Mangalore on Sunday.

This was as a part of the ongoing ‘Laudato Si’ programme called by His Holiness, the Pope, for Catholic Christians to engage in environmental protection. The parish priest of the church, Fr. Joseph Martis, gave the welcome address and introductory speech.

The local corporator and former mayor, M. Shashidhar Hegde, and another corporator, Ranjini Kotian, were the chief guests. M. Shashidhar Hegde informed about the environmental protection programmes undertaken by the City Corporation.

The assistant parish priest of the Church Fr Kevin D’souza, Youth Commission President Jeetan Castellino, Environment Commission President Jeevan Miranda, Religious Harmony Commission President Anil Patrao, Catholic Sabha President Wilma Monteiro, Vice President Sheila D’souza, Secretary Denzil, Religious Harmony Commission Coordinator Edward Coelho and Director of Four Winds Mass Communication Elias Fernandes were present. Sheldon Crasta conducted the programme.
