M’luru Toastmasters Clubs to host District Conference on Nov 21

Mangaluru: The Toastmasters community of Mangaluru has announced that the city based clubs will be jointly hosting their organization’s two-day Semi Annual Conference of Toastmasters District 92. Titled ‘Jamboree ‘15’, the conference will be held on and November 21 and 22, 2015 at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Navabharath Circle, Mangaluru.
An organizing committee comprising representatives of the local Toastmasters clubs is spearheading the event under the leadership of Conference Chair Anita Cordeiro.

About 400 delegates representing 147 clubs of District 92 that are located across Karnataka and Kerala, are expected to attend this conference. The semi-annual conference is one of the highlights of the Toastmasters experience bringing together the entire Toastmasters family on a common platform. It will include an optimum mix of competition, education, fellowship and entertainment, making it an eagerly awaited intellectual and educational fiesta.

Conference highlights

A colourful inauguration ceremony has been planned on November 21 at 11.15 am with a motivational address by the Chief Guest Sunney Tharappan, Director of College for Leadership and HRD. The key note address will be delivered by Palaniappa Subramaniam (2nd Place Winner at the World Championship of Public Speaking 2012).

During the conference there will also be four educational sessions where distinguished speakers Ram Satmani (CEO, Viman Apparels), Geralyn Pinto (Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of English at St. Agnes College, Mangalore and Palaniappa Subramaniam (2nd Place Winner at the World Championship of  Public Speaking 2012) will enlighten the delegates on various themes concerning communication and leadership.

Apart from this, the conference will include the district level Speech Evaluation Contest and Humorous Speech Contest, where the winners from the different subordinate units will be competing for the top slot in the district.

The gala attraction of the conference will be the cultural evening. Here various cultural and entertainment activities are planned to showcase the culture of Dakshina Kannada, including the staging of our iconic Pili Vesha (Tiger Dance).

With a vibrant programme like this, ‘Jamboree ‘15’ promises to be memorable event which all the delegates will enjoy and they will return home with an uplifting experience of Mangaluru.

Toastmasters movement

Toastmasters International is a global voluntary organization founded by Ralph C. Smedley in the year 1924. Toastmasters’ avowed mission is “to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders”. At present, our worldwide membership is 313,000 spanning 14,650 clubs in 126 countries.

The Toastmasters Movement was initiated in Mangaluru under the mentoring of Max Rasquinha, an NRI Toastmaster and the first club, Winners Club Toastmasters was chartered in 2002.

Mangaluru now has 7 Toastmasters clubs with a combined membership strength of 200 plus. We are also mentoring an upcoming Toastmasters fraternity in Udupi-Manipal region, where two clubs have started functioning under our wings.
