Blood Donation Camp at St Philomena College gets great response

Puttur: A mega blood donation camp held at St Philomena College, Puttur was very successful. This noteworthy event was jointly organized by National Cadet Corps – 3/19 KAR BN NCC, 5 KAR Naval NCC, Youth Red Cross Society, National Service Scheme, Rovers and Rangers of St Philomena College, Puttur, Rotary Club Puttur City; Rotary Puttur Elite; HDFC Bank Mangalore, Blood Helpline, Karnataka (R); Rotary CAMPCO Blood Centre, Puttur, KMC Blood Centre, Mangalore; Asha Jyothi Blood Centre, Shimogga.

Dr Ramachandra Bhat, the Medical Officer at Rotary CAMPCO Blood Centre Puttur, participated as resource person for the event. He provided essential information on the rules and guidelines for blood donation, explained what is permissible and what is not during the donation process, and highlighted the benefits of donating blood. Dr Prithyush M, the Medical Officer at KMC Mangalore, graced the occasion with his presence.

The Principal of the College, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, presided over the function and emphasized the noble cause of blood donation. He stated that the act of nobility in donating blood is inestimable and it is not for the sake of publicity but a commitment to saving lives. He stressed that life is a precious gift from God and that everyone should selflessly engage in life-saving activities.

The event was made possible through the efforts of Capt. Johnson David Sequeira, the NCC Unit officer, Vasudeva N, Pushpa, the program officers of NSS units, Dhanya PT, and Shree Raksha, coordinators of Rovers and Rangers, The Youth Red Cross Unit of the College coordinator Dr Dimple Fernandes , President of Rotary Club Puttur City Rtn Mohammad Sahab, President of Rotary Club Puttur Elite Rtn Abdul Rajak Haji, Shafi Mani ( Admin. of Blood Helpline Karnataka), Bhagyashree, Branch Operation Manager of HDFC Mangalore, and Anish Kumar, Branch Manager of HDFC Puttur, were present to support and facilitate the camp.

In total, more than 237 units of blood being collected from students across different academic disciplines. There was a provision for checking the hemoglobin levels for women students.

The event began with a prayer led by Raveena and her group. Dhanya P. T., the Convener of the Rovers and Rangers, extended a warm welcome. M. Thejaswi Bhat, the NCC Officer of the 5 Kar Naval NCC Unit, proposed vote of thanks. Spearl Pereira, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce compered.
