Fake Minister Link: Sub-Contractor Duped of ₹1.19 Crore in Kalaburagi Tender Scam
Kalaburagi: A sub-contractor was reportedly swindled out of ₹1.19 crore by a man posing as the son-in-law of a Mumbai-Karnataka minister. The accused lured the victim with false promises of lucrative tenders from the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB).
In a complaint filed with the Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) police, the victim, Sharanappa, stated that a man named Sridhar introduced himself as a minister’s son-in-law and assured him of contracts worth ₹20 crore from KKRDB, along with a ₹5 crore deal to supply calendars to government departments.
Believing the claim, Sharanappa paid the money in instalments to cover supposed tender-related expenses. However, when the promised tenders failed to materialise, he demanded his money back. In response, the accused issued a cheque—which eventually bounced—unveiling the fraud.
Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police Dr. Sharanappa confirmed the incident and said, “The fraud was exposed when the cheque given as repayment was dishonoured. A case has been registered, and an investigation is in progress.”
The police have launched a manhunt for Sridhar and his alleged accomplices—Lakshmikanth, Santosh, and Kiran—who are currently absconding.
