Amul has announced a nationwide increase of Rs 2 per litre in the prices of its fresh milk variants, effective from May 14. The revision applies across all major markets in India and impacts popular variants including Amul Taaza, Amul Gold, Amul Shakti and Amul Tea Special.

The price hike has been implemented by the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets products under the Amul brand.

Rising costs behind the increase

According to GCMMF, the revision was necessary due to rising operational and production expenses over the past year. The federation pointed to increased costs of cattle feed, fuel and packaging materials as key reasons for the hike.

GCMMF stated that milk procurement prices paid to farmers have already risen by nearly 3.7 per cent during the same period to support dairy producers facing higher input costs.

The federation also noted that this is the first increase in Amul milk prices since May 2025 and that the latest revision represents only a 2.5 to 3.5 per cent increase, remaining below the average food inflation rate.

New Amul milk prices

Under the revised pricing:

  • Amul Taaza: Rs 29 for 500 ml, Rs 57 for 1 litre
  • Amul Gold: Rs 35 for 500 ml
  • Amul Shakti: Rs 32 for 500 ml
  • Amul Tea Special: Rs 66 for 1 litre
  • Buffalo milk: Rs 39 for 500 ml

Farmers to benefit from revision

As a cooperative model, Amul said nearly 80 paise of every rupee spent by consumers goes directly to milk producers. The federation emphasised that most of the additional revenue from the latest price hike will support its 36 lakh dairy farmers and encourage sustained milk production.
