Mumbai: Blinkit has strengthened its leadership in India’s rapidly expanding quick commerce market, adding 2.7 million weekly active users (WAUs) over the past week, according to the latest consumer sector tracker released by brokerage firm CLSA.

The Zomato-owned platform’s user base climbed to a record 55.2 million weekly active users, significantly outpacing its closest competitors as demand for rapid grocery and essentials delivery continues to grow.

Blinkit outpaces rivals

According to the CLSA report, Blinkit’s weekly user growth was substantially higher than that of its competitors.

While Blinkit added 2.7 million weekly active users, BigBasket, JioMart and DMart Ready together added only 0.2 million users during the same period.

The brokerage said the figures reinforce Blinkit’s position as the market leader in India’s quick commerce segment, which has witnessed intense competition over the past year.

Strong growth over the past month

CLSA also analysed average weekly active user growth over the past four weeks.

Blinkit recorded an average WAU growth of 13 per cent, maintaining strong momentum despite its already large customer base.

Among its competitors:

  • BigBasket recorded average growth of 7 per cent
  • JioMart posted 16 per cent
  • DMart Ready grew 11 per cent
  • Swiggy Instamart registered 9 per cent

Although JioMart reported the highest percentage growth during the four-week period, Blinkit’s significantly larger customer base enabled it to add far more users in absolute numbers.

Delivery partner base also expanding

The brokerage noted that Blinkit’s delivery partner downloads continued to rise alongside its growing customer base.

However, CLSA cautioned that app downloads by delivery partners should not be interpreted as a direct measure of completed deliveries or order volumes, as downloads do not necessarily translate into active transactions.

Even so, the trend suggests that Blinkit is continuing to expand its delivery network to support rising consumer demand.

Mixed trends in food delivery

The report also highlighted developments in the online food delivery segment.

Both Zomato’s core food delivery business and Swiggy added approximately 0.1 million weekly active users during the week.

In contrast, Domino’s experienced a decline of around 0.6 million weekly active users, indicating softer engagement during the period.

The report also referred to Tiong, which continues to grow rapidly but remains considerably smaller than the established players. According to CLSA, Tiong’s user base is equivalent to around 65 per cent of Zomato’s and 56 per cent of Swiggy’s.

Traditional e-commerce loses momentum

CLSA observed that traditional e-commerce platforms experienced weaker user engagement following the conclusion of recent online sale events.

Among the major platforms:

  • Amazon lost around 0.6 million weekly active users
  • Flipkart saw a decline of 2.1 million users
  • Meesho recorded a fall of 1.6 million users

The brokerage suggested that the slowdown reflects a moderation in consumer activity after promotional sales.

Beauty platforms show contrasting performance

The report also tracked activity in the online beauty retail segment.

Nykaa lost approximately 0.4 million weekly active users during the week.

Meanwhile, Tira added around 0.4 million users, although it continues to operate from a much smaller customer base compared with Nykaa.

The latest data indicates that India’s digital commerce landscape remains highly competitive, with quick commerce continuing to outperform traditional e-commerce in terms of user growth. Blinkit’s sustained expansion and strong customer acquisition reinforce its leadership position as the sector evolves amid increasing competition from both established and emerging players.
