Kalaburagi Farmers Protest Over Unpaid Sugarcane Dues

Kalaburagi Farmers Protest Over Unpaid Sugarcane Dues

In Kalaburagi, sugarcane farmers from the Prantha Raitha Sangha staged a vigorous protest at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office on Thursday. The farmers are demanding the release of payments for sugarcane supplied last year to Renuka Sugars and KPR Sugar factories.

The demonstration began with a large procession from Sardar Vallabhai Patel Circle to the DC office, where protesters blocked the road on both sides. They chanted slogans against the state government, district administration, and the sugar factories involved. When barred from entering the DC office, the farmers formed a human chain and sat on the road in front of the building, continuing their blockade.

The situation prompted a verbal clash between the public and the demonstrators. After negotiations, the police persuaded the farmers to clear one side of the road to allow traffic flow. The farmers expressed their frustration, emphasizing that their protest was a response to what they perceive as unfair treatment and delayed payments.

The protest highlights ongoing issues between farmers and sugar factories, reflecting broader concerns about timely compensation and support for the agricultural community.
