Mumbai: The combined market valuation of six of India’s 10 most-valued companies increased by over ₹1 lakh crore last week, with Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Finance emerging as the biggest gainers. The rise came amid a broadly positive trend in domestic equity markets, supported by strong macroeconomic indicators and improving investor sentiment.
Benchmark indices end higher
During the week, the BSE Sensex advanced 663.44 points, or 0.86 per cent, while the NSE Nifty gained 214.85 points, or 0.89 per cent.
Market sentiment remained upbeat as investors responded positively to resilient domestic macroeconomic data, healthy Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections and improving industrial activity.
Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Finance lead gains
Among the country’s most valuable listed companies, Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Finance recorded the highest increase in market capitalisation during the week, contributing significantly to the overall rise in valuation.
Six of the top 10 firms registered gains in their market capitalisation, while the remaining four witnessed a decline.
Reliance remains India’s most valuable company
Despite fluctuations in market valuation during the week, Reliance Industries retained its position as India’s most valuable listed company by market capitalisation.
It was followed by HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India (SBI), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Bajaj Finance among the country’s leading listed firms.
Positive domestic indicators support markets
Analysts attributed the positive momentum in equities to strong domestic fundamentals, including healthy GST collections, improving industrial output and sustained investor confidence.
The gains in market capitalisation reflect continued optimism in the Indian equity markets despite global uncertainties, with investors focusing on the country’s economic resilience and corporate earnings outlook.
