Fire breaks out in south mumbai building after cylinder blast, four injured
A fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at Ansari Heights, a 22-story building located in the Dongri area of South Mumbai. The blaze resulted in injuries to four people, including a firewoman and three residents. It is believed the fire was caused by an LPG cylinder explosion. In total, over 27 residents were stranded on the building’s terrace, unable to escape due to smoke-filled staircases.
Emergency services responded quickly, deploying nine fire engines, three fire tankers, nine jumbo tankers, and one turntable ladder. According to Deputy Fire Officer S.D. Sawant, the fire originated from a cylinder explosion on the 15th floor, which also ignited fires in flats on the 16th and 10th floors. Additionally, an air conditioner unit caught fire, worsening the situation.
Among the injured was Anjali Amol Jamdade, a 35-year-old firefighter from the Mandavi Fire Station. She sustained a shoulder injury after glass from a broken window struck her. She received ten stitches and is in stable condition. Two residents, Nasir Muni Ansari (49) and Samir Nasir Ansari (44), suffered burn injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals, while a third resident, Sana Ansari (32), was treated for minor injuries.
The explosion occurred around 12:50 PM, leading to panic among residents. Due to illegal parking around the building, firefighters had difficulty accessing the site. Local leaders, including Congress MLA Amin Patel, have called for an investigation into the building’s safety measures and construction.
