Focus on Trial Monitoring and Community Policing in Western Range
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Amit Singh has directed the Superintendents of Police (SPs) in four districts of Karnataka’s Western Range to prioritize trial monitoring of important, sensitive, and communal cases. This initiative aims to improve the conviction rate by ensuring that cases such as murder, rape, crimes against women and children, and atrocities under the SC/ST Act are closely monitored.
A sub-inspector (SI) will be assigned to personally oversee the progress of these cases, staying in contact with complainants and witnesses, and reporting any issues, such as witnesses turning hostile, to the concerned SP. DIG Singh emphasized that the goal is to ensure these cases reach a logical conclusion.
To strengthen community policing, DIG Singh has decided to enhance the beat system, with head constables (HCs) playing a crucial role in intelligence gathering. HCs, serving as beat officers, will act as liaisons between the police department and the community, gathering information from locals and keeping complainants informed about case progress. Every 15 days, the beat officer will update the SI on developments.
DIG Singh highlighted the importance of quick and impartial responses to communal and sensitive cases, including moral policing. He also stressed the need for a visible police presence and greater interaction with the public, in line with the chief minister’s directive. Additionally, efforts will be intensified to combat the drug menace in the region through awareness programs in schools and colleges.
