Food Safety Violations Uncovered at Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutes
The Food Safety Task Force from Telangana’s Food Safety Department has uncovered several serious food safety violations at the central kitchen of Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutes, located in the Madhapur area of Hyderabad. During the inspection on January 24, 2025, the task force found a range of issues related to hygiene, food storage, and worker safety.
Key violations included the absence of essential documentation such as water analysis reports, pest control records, and the FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) certificates for employees. Additionally, food handlers were found working without proper protective gear, such as aprons and gloves, and the kitchen facilities were in poor condition. The refrigerators were inadequately cleaned, and the kitchen floors were described as “patchy and wet.” Furthermore, food waste was found littered in certain areas, and the exhaust system was “greasy and unclean.”
The most concerning discoveries included a live cockroach infestation and rodent faeces, with no rodent traps in place. The kitchen’s drains were broken, and the walls showed visible damage, including broken tiles. The task force also noted that food items were improperly stored on the ground instead of on pallets, and food and non-food items were mixed together. Expired food was seized, including 125 kilos of cashew nuts that had passed their expiry date by over a week.
In addition to these violations, the task force pointed out that the food business operator (FBO) lacked the necessary FSSAI licenses for transport vehicles, further compounding the issues.
The food safety task force has seized a significant amount of non-compliant food products and continues to address the concerns raised during the inspection.
