A woman who went missing from Totaganti village in Gadag district on August 20 was found alive three days later in an abandoned well on the village outskirts. The woman, identified as Parvati Kalmath, is currently under treatment at Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Hospital and is reported to be recovering quickly.
Parvati recounted the harrowing experience to the police, stating that an unidentified woman entered her home early on August 20 while she was working in the kitchen. “The woman dragged me to an isolated place, snatched my mangalsutra, bangles, and other ornaments, and pushed me into the empty well,” she said. Parvati lost consciousness but regained it on the third day when rainwater woke her up. She screamed for help for nearly two hours before being heard by some boys grazing sheep and goats nearby, who rushed to her rescue.
Villagers claim this isn’t the first such incident in Totaganti, where lone women have been targeted. Despite reporting these incidents to the police, the problem persists. The police have stated they will question Parvati once she is fully recovered.
Locals noted that Parvati and her husband moved to Totaganti village six months ago. At the time of her rescue, she was weak and unable to speak.
