Bengaluru: KRAFTON India has unveiled its H2 2025 Esports roadmap, announcing two flagship Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) tournaments — the BGMI Showdown (BMSD) and the BGMI International Cup (BMIC). Together, the competitions promise prize pools worth ₹1 crore each, dual qualification pathways into the global championship, and unprecedented international exposure for Indian teams.

BGMI Showdown 2025: National stage to global arena

Kicking off on September 18 in Hyderabad, the BGMI Showdown 2025 (BMSD) will bring together 48 elite teams drawn from BGIS, BMPS, and approved third-party tournaments.

The high-intensity studio format competition will run until October 12, 2025, with the winner earning:

  • A direct slot in the Global Championship,
  • ₹1 crore prize pool, and
  • Qualification slots for the top 8 teams into the BGMI International Cup.

The tournament marks the first structured pathway for an Indian team to directly enter a global esports championship through national competition.

BGMI International Cup: India hosts global showdown

From October 31 to November 2, 2025, the spotlight shifts to the BGMI International Cup (BMIC), a LAN event hosted in India.

The BMIC will feature:

  • India’s top 8 teams from BMSD,
  • 8 international contenders, including 4 elite squads each from Korea and Japan,
  • A ₹1 crore prize pool, and
  • Two direct qualification slots into the Global Championship.

For the first time, India could see up to three teams securing individual global slots through BMSD and BMIC, a milestone that significantly elevates the country’s esports stature.

Campus Tour 2025–2026: Nurturing grassroots talent

Alongside its premier tournaments, KRAFTON also announced the expansion of the BGMI Campus Tour 2025–2026, which will spotlight Tier-2 cities and colleges across India. Launching in October 2025, the program will provide aspiring gamers with exposure to competitive tournaments, community engagement, and pathways from casual play to professional esports.

This initiative follows the success of the first campus tour and reflects KRAFTON India’s commitment to broadening esports access beyond metros.

KRAFTON’s vision for Indian esports

Karan Pathak, Associate Director – Esports, KRAFTON India, said the roadmap underscores a long-term vision for India’s esports ecosystem.

“Our vision has always been to build a structured pathway for esports talent in India — from college campuses to national leagues and onto international competitions. The BGMI Showdown, BGMI International Cup, and Campus Tour are steps toward elevating India’s standing in global esports,” he said.

He added that by hosting international teams on Indian soil, KRAFTON is enabling Indian players to benchmark themselves against the world’s best, while simultaneously establishing India as a potential global hub for esports.

Why this matters now

Esports in India is at an inflection point. Government recognition, rising digital audiences, youth adoption in Tier-2 cities, and international exposure are converging to create a mainstream sports ecosystem.

By hosting international LAN events, launching structured qualification systems, and investing in grassroots development, KRAFTON is pushing BGMI beyond just a mobile game into a national passion and global competitive phenomenon.

Conclusion

The announcement of the BGMI Showdown and BGMI International Cup marks a turning point for India’s esports landscape. With ₹2 crore in prize pools, multiple global championship pathways, and grassroots initiatives like the Campus Tour, KRAFTON India is laying the foundation for Indian esports to not only thrive domestically but also shine internationally.

As Indian teams prepare to face off against top squads from Korea and Japan, the second half of 2025 promises to be a defining chapter for BGMI and for India’s place in the global esports ecosystem.
