Sony is signalling a major strategic shift in its gaming philosophy. Following Microsoft’s move to bring Xbox-exclusive games to rival consoles, Sony appears poised to do the same—hinting at a future where PlayStation exclusives may no longer remain platform-bound.

A new job listing on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s portal for a “Senior Director, Multiplatform & Account Management” reveals the company’s intention to expand its PlayStation Studios titles to other platforms. These may include Xbox, Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch—and even mobile ecosystems like Android and iOS.

The role focuses on optimising title profitability and growing audience reach across ecosystems. This means Sony is actively developing strategies not just for console ports, but potentially for mobile gaming, further amplifying its market reach.

Historically, PlayStation’s dominance stemmed from its blockbuster exclusives like The Last of Us and Spider-Man, which helped it outsell competitors. Microsoft’s Xbox, too, leaned on exclusives such as Halo and Forza. However, with Microsoft already offering some of its previously exclusive titles on PS5, Sony’s latest hiring move suggests it won’t be left behind in a rapidly changing industry.

The console wars are evolving. As physical console sales plateau and production costs rise, game publishers are chasing larger profits by tapping into cross-platform audiences. Sony’s apparent readiness to port fan-favourites could mean beloved franchises once locked to PlayStation might soon be playable on Xbox, PC—and even mobile devices.

While no specific titles or release dates have been announced, insiders and gamers alike are watching closely.
