New Delhi: Xbox players have five games to try for free this weekend as part of Microsoft’s latest Free Play Days promotion. The October lineup is focused entirely on Ubisoft titles, bringing games including Far Cry 6, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to Xbox players at no additional cost for a limited period.

The promotion began on Thursday, October 1, and runs until Sunday, October 4. Importantly, Microsoft has made this week’s event available to all Xbox members, meaning an Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate subscription is not required to access the five games during the promotional period.

The five games are spread across several genres, including open-world action, role-playing, naval combat and racing. Players who enjoy one of the titles can also purchase it at a limited-time discount and continue playing after the Free Play Days period ends.

Five games available for free

The October 1–4 lineup includes Far Cry 6, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones and The Crew Motorfest. All five are part of the special Free Play Days for All promotion.

Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 takes players to Yara, a fictional Caribbean island controlled by Antón Castillo. Players take the role of Dani Rojas and join a guerrilla movement attempting to overthrow Castillo’s regime.

The game combines open-world exploration with first-person shooting, vehicles, improvised weapons and a range of missions. It can also be played with another player in co-op.

During the promotion, Xbox is offering the game at a limited-time discount for players who decide to purchase it after trying it. The official Xbox listing currently shows the game at a heavily reduced price, although discounts can vary by region.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes players to ancient Greece, where they play as a Spartan warrior and explore a large open world filled with quests, battles and historical locations.

The game features large-scale combat between Spartan and Athenian forces, along with exploration, character progression and choices that influence the story.

Xbox is also offering Odyssey at a limited-time discount during the Free Play Days promotion.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

For players looking for a different open-world experience, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora transports them to the Western Frontier of Pandora.

The game allows players to explore the world as a Na’vi character, reconnect with their heritage and fight to protect Pandora. It supports solo play as well as cooperative gameplay.

The title is also available to try through the October 1–4 promotion, with a discounted purchase option available for players who want to keep playing after the event.

Skull and Bones

Skull and Bones offers a naval combat experience centred on piracy and open-world exploration.

Players command ships, participate in naval battles and work through progression systems while exploring the game’s seas. The current Free Play Days event also coincides with the game’s Year 3 Season 2 content, known as Crimson Waters.

The latest season adds a large ship called the Junk, along with new challenges involving the Abyssal Fleet and Abyssal Envoy.

The Crew Motorfest

The fifth title is The Crew Motorfest, an open-world racing game set against the landscapes of the Hawaiian archipelago.

The game focuses on car culture, allowing players to race, explore and drive across the game’s open world. Xbox says the game features more than 800 vehicles, giving players a broad selection of cars and other vehicles to collect and drive.

It is available to try for free through October 4, while a discounted purchase option is also available during the promotion.

How to access the free games

Xbox players can find the participating titles through their individual Microsoft Store pages. On Xbox consoles, the games can also be accessed through the Subscriptions section of the Xbox Store, where players can find the Free Play Days collection.

The promotion is available from October 1 through October 4. Xbox says availability and discounts can vary depending on the game and region.

Because this is a Free Play Days for All event, players do not need an Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate membership simply to try these five games during the promotional period.

What happens after October 4?

The free-play period ends on Sunday, October 4. Players who purchase any of the games can continue playing after the promotion ends.

Microsoft also says players can retain their Gamerscore and achievements earned during the Free Play Days event if they purchase the relevant game afterwards. This means progress made during the trial period can continue to count towards the player’s Xbox profile.

The discounts are temporary and their percentage and availability can differ by title and region. The Xbox Store currently lists discounts on all five games, including reductions of up to 85% on some titles.

With five established Ubisoft games covering shooters, RPGs, exploration, naval combat and racing, this week’s promotion gives Xbox owners a broad selection to sample before the October 4 deadline.
