Gram Panchayats Crack Down on Garbage Dumping
The rising issue of illegal garbage dumping on rural roads and highways has prompted gram panchayats to take firm action against offenders. The Sajipamunnur gram panchayat has recently imposed substantial fines, totaling ₹25,000, on vehicle owners caught dumping waste, thanks to surveillance from CCTV cameras.
Despite earlier efforts such as installing warning boards, illegal dumping near Marnabailu Guligana Kate and opposite Panemangaluru Sharada School persisted. To address the issue more effectively, the gram panchayat decided to install CCTV cameras and cleared existing garbage to ensure clear visibility of vehicle number plates.
Notices have been issued to violators based on CCTV footage, and this proactive approach has been well-received by both the panchayat and the local community. The measure has significantly reduced the risk of health hazards related to accumulated garbage, particularly near schools and residential areas.
The gram panchayat’s initiative is a critical step towards improving public health and maintaining cleanliness in rural areas.
