In a dramatic turn of events in Hassan, police were forced to open fire on an accused who attempted to flee while in custody. The accused, identified as Manu, sustained leg injuries and was admitted to the Hassan district hospital for treatment.
Manu had previously waylaid a car and damaged the windshield of a private bus using a sword on the outskirts of Hassan city the night before. The bus conductor’s video of the incident went viral on social media, prompting police action.
On Thursday, after his arrest, Manu requested to attend nature’s call near Shantigrama, but he tried to escape by attacking the police. In response, officers opened fire on his leg and secured his custody.
Manu, who is already a suspect in a murder case and multiple attempted murders, is now undergoing medical treatment while in police custody.
