Former police inspector Thimmegowda, who served at the Dudda police station in Hassan district from 2000 to 2004, has been found dead in an incident being investigated as a possible suicide. Thimmegowda had been embroiled in a serious controversy involving a woman who accused him of fraud, threats, and rape. The woman filed a case against him after he allegedly refused to marry her when she became pregnant. A DNA test confirmed his paternity, which led to additional rape charges being levied against him.

The case had advanced to the High Court before being transferred to a lower court. Thimmegowda attended a hearing at Hassan’s Additional Sessions Court in July, with another hearing scheduled for August 31. There is growing speculation that Thimmegowda’s death might be linked to the stress and depression related to these legal issues.

Adding to the controversy are reports of potential pressure on Thimmegowda, particularly during his tenure with the Crime Control Bureau (CCB) and recent high-profile arrests. His brother, Chikka Muddaiah, has expressed doubts about the true cause of Thimmegowda’s death, suggesting that it might not have been a suicide. Furthermore, Thimmegowda’s father-in-law, Govinda, indicated that he had been facing difficulties from certain officials prior to his death.

Thimmegowda had been previously suspended following a tragic fireworks accident at Attibele police station last year. Although he was later cleared of any wrongdoing, he faced ongoing distress and was not assigned further duties, which added to his personal and professional struggles.

Sources also revealed that Thimmegowda may have faced pressure during his recent assignment with the Financial Crimes Investigation Squad, where he took on an investigative role. The combination of these factors has led to a complex and troubling situation surrounding his death.
