The Haveri city police have registered a case after an unidentified individual stole the card of a retired teacher and withdrew ₹80,000 from his bank account. The victim, Fakkirappa, lodged a complaint regarding the incident.
According to police reports, Fakkirappa visited the SBI ATM near Magavi Chamber on June 20. After inserting his card and entering the PIN, he found that no money was dispensed. Seizing this opportunity, an individual standing behind him in the queue offered to help and took hold of Fakkirappa’s card.
The accused proceeded to withdraw money from the ATM using Fakkirappa’s genuine card while keeping it hidden in his pocket. He then handed over a fake card to Fakkirappa before leaving the scene unnoticed. Unaware of being deceived with a counterfeit card, Fakkirappa also left assuming everything was normal.
Later that day, ₹80,000 was systematically withdrawn from Fakkirappa’s bank account through various ATMs. When he received notifications on his mobile phone about these transactions, he promptly contacted the bank and filed a complaint with the police station.
“The perpetrator is currently being tracked down,” stated authorities involved in the investigation, as they continue their inquiry into this case of ATM fraud targeting an unsuspecting retired teacher in Haveri city.
