A vacuum cleaner is one of the important home appliances that help in cleaning our home with ease. Most of the times we fail to maintain this appliance properly. In this article, we have listed a few tips to maintain your vacuum cleaner in top-notch condition. Whether you buy a vacuum cleaner online or offline, follow these basic maintenance guidelines in order to keep it in a good condition.

Handle the vacuum’s cord carefully: Don’t pull out the plug with the vacuum cord or use the automatic rewind when the cord is twisted or tangled.

Check bags regularly: Make sure that the bags are not full to the brim. Most of the vacuum cleaners lose suction when the bags are more than half full. Don’t reuse paper bags as their pores become blocked after a single use, which results in overheating of the vacuum motor.

Check the floorhead: Floorhead is one of the most important parts of a vacuum cleaner. Check if the floorhead is blocked by any debris and needs cleaning. You can flip the floorhead upside down and look under the vacuum cleaner to check that. You can easily find out whether or not the floorhead requires cleaning.

Remove debris: Check if there are any threads or strands of hair wrapped around the brush roll. To clean this, you might require a pair of scissors.

Check if the roll is spinning properly: Make sure that the roll of the vacuum cleaner is spinning properly. Only then, it would be able to suck the dirt and clean the house. If the bearings inside the cap are built up with dirt, clean those bearings by unscrewing the end caps. This can save you from hover repairs. But, you need to replace the brush rolls frequently so that your vacuum cleaner is in good condition.

Clean the vacuum belt: The vacuum belt is located near the brush roll. You can check if the belt is still taut by removing the bottom plate.

Clean the vacuum’s filter: If the filters are dirty, it means that the machine is less efficient. Some models have washable filters, while some need to be replaced. So, based on the machine you use, try to replace or wash the filters regularly. If you have a plastic filter, you can dust it with a cloth or soft brush.

Monitor regularly for performance: Monitor the vacuum cleaner for changes in the performance or any noise in the system. This keeps you aware of how often the machine needs attention from your end.

If the vacuum cleaner stops working abruptly, you need to stop the vacuum cleaner and let the motor cool down. After an hour or later, you can start using the machine as usual. If the problem persists, you need to seek expert advice regarding its repair.

These are some of the measures to be taken for maintaining your vacuum cleaner in top-notch condition. If proper care is not taken, you may end up spending a lot on expensive repairs down the line. So, make sure you keep monitoring the performance of your vacuum cleaner on a regular basis for best results.
