Weight Loss Surgeries

If you’ve tried everything from a change in diet to a hardcore fitness routine and nothing worked; if your body mass index (BMI) is over 40 to the point of severe obesity; if you have complications like diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea because of obesity; you need a weight loss surgery.

An operation or procedure for weight loss may seem like you are doing something unnatural to yourself. However, if you need it, you need it. There is nothing abnormal about a weight loss surgery. The world of medicine and technology has a lot in store for you.

Here are some of the most common and medically tested surgeries that are carried out to get that extra weight off of you.

Gastric Band Surgery:

As part of this method, your surgeon will tie the top of your stomach with a gastric band and create a small pouch there. This banding of the stomach will restrict the amount of food your stomach can take in. The best part is, your body will still absorb all the healthy nutrients you need to function, from the food you eat.

Gastric Bypass Surgery:

In this method, your stomach is divided into two sections and the upper section is connected directly to your small intestine. This change in direction will get all your digestive juices to flow to your small intestine. As the food you eat bypasses a portion of the small intestine, lesser nutrients and calories are soaked up by your body.

Sleeve Gastrectomy:

This operation is carried out in such a way that a section of your stomach is surgically removed to make your tummy smaller. This way, you don’t eat more than you can take.

Intragastric Balloon Insertion:

If you want to go with this method, be prepared to have a tiny balloon in your belly after your surgery. During this procedure, your surgeon will insert a salt water or air filled soft balloon in your stomach. This intragastric balloon will help curb your appetite and make sure you eat lesser than what you are used to.

Biliopancreatic Diversion Method:

This operation is similar to the gastric bypass surgery. The only difference is that your stomach will be lined further along your small intestine. This method aims to achieve the same goal as the gastric bypass.
