Mangaluru: On Wednesday, June 18, a session on diabetes and foot care was held in collaboration with KMC Mangalore and Ottobock Healthcare, Mangalore. The event took place in the Tower 2 lobby on the ground floor of KMC Hospital Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle.
The session was led by Dr. Haroon Hussain, a physician and diabetologist, and Dr. Priyatham Kamat, a diabetic foot specialist (podiatrist), both from KMC Hospital. The event saw active participation from diabetic patients, including those with prostheses fitted by Ottobock, as well as KMC doctors and staff.
The audience, numbering over 70 people, comprised diabetic patients, their caretakers, and patients using prostheses. The session aimed to provide crucial education on managing diabetes and preventing complications, especially focusing on foot care—a critical aspect for diabetic patients to avoid severe issues such as infections or amputations.
Dr. Haroon Hussain emphasized the importance of regular monitoring and maintaining blood sugar levels to prevent diabetic complications. Dr. Priyatham Kamat provided valuable insights into proper foot care practices, highlighting the need for daily inspection of feet, proper hygiene, and wearing appropriate footwear.
The interactive session allowed attendees to ask questions and share their experiences, fostering a supportive community environment. The event underscored the collaboration between KMC Mangalore and Ottobock Healthcare in enhancing the quality of life for diabetic patients through education and advanced medical solutions.
