Expansion Of Namma Clinics In Dakshina Kannada District

The health department is gearing up to introduce 254 new Namma Clinics statewide, with Dakshina Kannada (DK) district set to receive five of these facilities. Currently, DK hosts 12 operational Namma Clinics, and the upcoming additions—planned for Kotekar (Kondana), Guttakadu (Kinnigoli), Lingappaiahnakadu (Mulky), Malavoor (Bajpe), and Ukkuda (Vittal)—will bolster the district’s healthcare infrastructure.

These clinics are strategically placed in urban areas with populations exceeding 30,000, complementing existing primary health centers in regions with over 50,000 residents. The initiative aims to enhance access to healthcare services for underserved communities and facilitate referrals to higher-tier healthcare facilities when necessary.

Dr. H R Timmaiah, health officer of Dakshina Kannada, confirmed that the state government has sanctioned the establishment of these new clinics, pending finalization of operational guidelines following a recent NHM commissioner’s meeting on June 14. The tender process for construction is nearing completion, paving the way for enhanced healthcare delivery in urban centers across the district.
