In a tragic incident, Yatheesh (52) succumbed to dengue fever at a hospital in Mangaluru, despite receiving treatment. Originally from Shambhoor village in Bantwal taluk, Yatheesh had recently moved to Kabaka in Puttur with his family. He worked at Bharat Beedi Company’s branch in B C Road.
After being diagnosed with severe dengue fever and critically low platelet counts, Yatheesh was admitted to Bantwal hospital. Due to his deteriorating condition, he was transferred to Derlakatte hospital for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, medical efforts failed, resulting in his death.
Yatheesh, known for his exemplary character, leaves behind a grieving wife and two daughters, along with numerous friends. His death has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the severity of dengue fever.
Dengue cases have been rising across the district, but Yatheesh’s death marks the first officially recorded fatality in Dakshina Kannada. Concerns have been raised about underreporting dengue-related deaths to the health department, as several incidents in private hospitals may go unreported.
This incident underscores the need for accurate reporting and increased awareness of dengue fever. Authorities must ensure that all cases, especially fatalities, are documented to better understand and combat the spread of this disease.
