A heartwarming ceremony took place at the Melodies Center in Albany Medical Center, where 4-year-old Abby, a cancer patient battling Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, fulfilled her dream of marrying her beloved nurse, Matt Hickling.
Abby had been telling her mom all week that she wanted to marry Matt. Upon hearing this, Abby’s mother shared her daughter’s wish with the nurse, who quickly responded, “We’re planning a wedding tomorrow.” Within 24 hours, the hospital staff pulled together a wedding ceremony for Abby and Matt.
Abby wore a white dress with black leggings, a veil, and held a bouquet of pink and purple flowers. Matt donned a tuxedo T-shirt and a boutonnière. The couple exchanged ring pops as they said their vows in front of hospital staff and Abby’s family. Abby’s mother walked her down the aisle, over a trail of rose petals.
The joyful event included a wedding cake, flowers donated by a local florist, and a toy car that Matt used to take Abby for a ride, marked “Just Married.”
Abby’s mother expressed her gratitude on social media, calling the day a bright moment for their family. “This will be a memory we will cherish forever,” she wrote, adding that both she and Abby couldn’t stop smiling.
Matt also shared his gratitude for being part of such a special day. “I will always remember this,” he said.
