Do you often feel drained, no matter how much rest you get? Do people brush off your fatigue as laziness? It’s time to dig a little deeper. Some everyday symptoms, often ignored or misdiagnosed, might actually be early warning signs of something more serious — even cancer.

Dr. Tim Tiutan, an oncology hospitalist, recently shared on Instagram five commonly overlooked signs of cancer that are often mistaken for minor issues. “While cancers can appear in many forms — sometimes with no symptoms at all — these are some signs that warrant attention,” he said.

1. Unexplained weight loss
Dropping weight without changing your eating or workout habits? Dr. Tim warns that sudden, unintended weight loss could be a red flag for several types of cancer. It’s one of the earliest and most overlooked symptoms.

2. Constant fatigue
Tired all the time even after solid sleep? Persistent exhaustion that doesn’t go away with rest could be more than burnout. It’s a common symptom in many cancer patients and should not be brushed off.

3. Night sweats and fevers
Chronic low-grade fevers or waking up drenched in sweat? While these can be signs of infection, they’re also early indicators of cancers like lymphoma. Don’t ignore them if they persist.

4. Lumps in the body
Any unusual lump — especially in the neck, armpits, or chest — should be checked immediately. It might be a swollen lymph node or a tumor.

5. Rectal bleeding
Blood during bowel movements is often dismissed as piles. But if it continues or worsens, it could indicate colorectal cancer.

Early diagnosis can save lives. If you notice these symptoms, talk to your doctor — better safe than sorry.
