Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP has announced a ban on trekking in Dakshina Kannada during the rainy season. Due to widespread rainfall and the potential for natural disasters, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has taken precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

The district has seen an increase in group visits to various trekking points, leading to concerns about the risks associated with adventurous activities during heavy rain. The DC emphasized that the monsoon’s strengthening has heightened the likelihood of landslides, lightning, and tree uprooting, making trekking dangerous.

To mitigate these risks, the public and tourists are prohibited from accessing trekking points until the end of the rainy season. This ban also extends to trekking activities organized by the forest department, as well as activities conducted by homestays and resorts. Violating this order will result in penalties under Section 51B and other relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act 2005.

DC Muhilan, who also chairs the DDMA, advised people to avoid waterfalls, rivers, the sea, and other water bodies during this period. Swimming and engaging in adventurous activities in these areas are banned until further notice.

The decision aims to protect the public from potential disasters and ensure safety during the monsoon. Residents and tourists are urged to comply with these regulations and avoid risky activities in affected areas.
